The government’s environmental department sponsored “2022 Workshop on Strategies for Ocean Debris in East Asian Region “ was held on Jan 21. Twenty six governmental, and civic organizations from Japan and Taiwan gathered virtually and Tse Xin Foundation shared the courses and results of recent years in promoting plastic reduction education at its school campuses.


  

Tse Xin Foundation representative Xu Wan Yu shared her experience and steps in eliminating plastic at large campuses throughout Taiwan using “Light up Taiwan, Light up the Ocean - Point System Plan on Plastic Reduction on Campus” as the main theme. Through virtual meeting, she also shared her experience and process including how to overcome difficulties during the pandemic. and hold meeting virtually. Off line, she shared the results of the “Gathering of the Ocean Protection Team” which allowed 1.3 million students to participate simultaneously and have live interaction.


The lighting plan was started in 2018 and during the past three years, it has attracted students and teachers from 339 schools to join and has reduced single use plastic products by 6 millions pieces。 We hope this experience can be an educational model to participants so that children can learn about minimal plastic use, and develop healthy environmental habit.
Sharing experiences and discussion enabled Japan and Taiwan to further understand each other’s situation and results so that there will be new directional approaches and strategies to consider.
